Vertical window blinds are good options to add to your home décor. They are quite versatile and can be made to match your interiors. Add to that the fact that they come with vanes that can be made of different materials, they can easily be made to fit any color scheme or theme you might want to portray for your home.

Required Tools/Materials

One of the important things you should remember when installing vertical window blinds is that you should always wear protective gear. You should also get someone to help you install this type of blinds since they are usually so large that it requires at least two people to manage the installation.

Bring out your screw drivers, pencil, tape measure, hole punch, finishing nails, and a hammer. You will also need a level, scissors, and a drill. Make sure to have different sized drill bits ready.

When you purchase a set of vertical window blinds you should check if your set came with all the necessary materials. A standard set will come with mounting screws, nuts, bolts, mounting clips, wall brackets, clips, chain, vanes, vertical blinds, and head rails. You definitely will need fasteners to make this installation. However these are not usually supplied in the package.

If you are wondering about what wall anchors to use, a good tip is that you should match your anchor to the material you are mounting your blinds. If you have heavy blinds you might want to go for hollow wall anchors or toggle bolts. If you bought lighter blinds then you can stick with plastic anchors. You can ask the store regarding which anchor to use for the particular vertical window blinds you intend to buy.

Installing Vertical Window Blinds

The first step is to install vertical window blinds is to measure the dimensions of your windows. Also consider whether you want to install inside mount blinds or outside mount types. Remember that inside mount blinds go inside your window casing. So you better use the dimensions that coincide with this type of blinds.

Unpack the set of blinds you ordered and pay attention to the manufacturer’s installation instructions. Add a couple of inches to your measurements for the top of the frame if you plan to do an outside mount. Mark where the brackets will be positioned and drill holes for each mark.

Attach the brackets on each area where you drilled holes. Screw them on using mounting screws. Now you can slide in the holders of each window blind to the brackets. Sometimes blinds will come with a dust cover. You should line this up along with depth marks and drill holes at the hole marks.

Use wall anchors to attach the dust cover into the holes. Hold the dust cover using its clips and affix them to the window sill using screws. When you’re done with that you can finally snap on the head rail.
