How to Build a Rabbit Cage

If you have a pet rabbit, you can build a rabbit cage for them. This cage measures 4.5 x 4.5 ft. This is large enough for three rabbits.

Required Tools and Materials

Wire cutters
Measuring tape
Protective eyewear
Sheet of plywood 3 x 5 ft
Rabbit litter box
Towels
Water bottles
Water
Rabbit bedding
15 cage clips
Wire latches
Gloves
Soldering iron
14 gauge woven wire (4.5 ft x 9 ft long)
Workbench
14 gauge woven wire (4.5 feet wide x 18 feet long)

Step 1

Put the 4.5 x 4.5, 18 ft woven wire on the floor. Make a mark per 4.5 ft. You will end up with 4 pieces 4.5 high and 4.5 ft wide. Get the wire cutters and chop the four wire pieces. These are the rabbit cage walls. Solder the sides.

Step 2

Put the 4.5 x 4.5 wire cage on the ground, right side up. Put the 4.5 x 8 ft long woven wire on the ground. Work from one side and measure 4.5 feet from the 9 ft wire. Chop the wire in half. When you build a rabbit cage, use these as the bottom and top.

Step 3

Put the 4.5 x 4.5 wire panels on the cage you made right side up. Solder the wire panel’s bottom part on the cage sides. Make certain
that it is fastened tight.

Step 4

Turn the rabbit cage upside down. Put the 4.5 x 4.5 wire panel on the cage top. Open the page clips. Join them to the corners from the top panel corners. If needed, set them between corners. Take off the top panel for now so you fix the cage interior.

Step 5

Cut a 12 inch tall x 8 inch wide hole on one side. This will be the cage door. Have the wires on the bottom and side panels clipped. Connect the door side on the cage side. Crease the wires by folding it. You can also make another door if you like. Some rabbits like to have separate entrances and exits.

Step 6

After you make the doorway, connect the cage latch using the hooks onto the doorway side. Put the plywood sheet on the cage bottom. Fasten it on the corners.

After you build a rabbit cage, add the bunny liter box on the side. For the bedding, use towels or straw. You can also put water bottles on the cage floor. This will keep the animals cool during the summer. Don’t forget to bring food to the cage.
