One amazing tool that you can use to style up your windows, which will not require you to splurge, is the cornice board. Cornice window treatments are inexpensive and very easy to install but does not look cheap, mind you.

A cornice board is a four-sided box. It can work as a valance and would look lovely to any kind of window. With a little help from some carpentry tools such as hammer, nails, wood glue, and ‘L’ brackets, you can create a beautiful window treatment out of ordinary cornice boards. Check out the nearest hardware store, grab a sheet of plywood, a small can of paint, and a roll of wallpaper boarder, and you are good to go.

Step 1: Create your very own cornice board. Glue and nail together four pieces of cut plywood: one front piece, one top piece, and two side pieces. Make sure that you make accurate measurements of your window before cutting the board. This cornice board will be your canvass.

Step 2: When the glue has dried, you can start sanding your cornice board so it become smooth. Use a sandpaper that is of medium grade to smoothen out the rough edges. Make sure to do extra work on the part where the side pieces meet the front piece. It has to be extra smooth so the wallpaper would lay out without lumps.

Step 3: Choose a paint color that will complement your wallpaper design. Use it to paint the bottom edge of the front piece of your cornice board as well as the insides of the side pieces.

Step 4: When the paint is already dry, you can start wallpapering. Choose a wallpaper design that will complement your current home style. When applying it, read the manufacturer’s instructions carefully. Make sure that you run it smoothly onto the board. Since the top piece of the board is not visible, you need not to apply wallpaper to it.

Step 5: Hang the finished cornice board to your window using ‘L’ brackets. Make sure to choose an ‘L’ bracket with the right length. That is to ensure that you will be able to cover up the window hardware.
