One of the most important things that any car owner should immediately address is knowing your car inside and out. This is even more important if you are a first-time car owner.
By familiarizing yourself with every component that goes into your car to have it running smoothly, you are more or less aware of how each part works and contributes to the whole machination of your car.
In this manner, should any of the parts break down, you would have an idea of where to start when considering steps on how to auto repair that particular broken or malfunctioning part.
How to Auto Repair
1. Isolate the problem. When your car suddenly breaks down or is not running as smoothly as you would have it, you first have to check which part is contributing to the car’s malfunction.
This is why it is very important that you know your car extensively: you know the sounds it makes as you drive it, and you know the “feel” it gives off as you start and drive it.
You should also be familiar with the type of engine that you have and everything else found under the hood; from the radiator to the battery.
2. Troubleshoot. When your car breaks down or starts acting up, it is not always possible to get immediate help especially if you are on the freeway. If you are in the middle of the road and your car breaks down, it is important that you get it to the side of the road as soon as possible.
If this is not possible, take out your warning triangles and place them a few meters off your car so incoming traffic will know that you are stalled and avoid colliding with you.
Don’t forget to turn on your hazard lights as well.
Check your manual for troubleshooting tips to see if any of those tips can get your car to start and run again.
Possible areas that you may want to check are your battery to see if it’s dead, overheated radiator and although this may seem very obvious, check too if you have ran out of gas.
3. Call for assistance. Dial for assistance to get someone to help you out as soon as possible. As you try to troubleshoot the break down, it is still best to have a professional come and check the car while you are stalled in the middle of the road.
You may need towing services to get your car to the garage so it’s also best to call for help.
