Like other displays, an LCD monitor can get damaged for a variety of reasons. Before you head out to the repair shop, you can try these methods to repair an LCD monitor.
How to Fix the Samsung LCD Monitor
Required Tools and Materials
Solder
Solder iron
47 or 50 ohm resistor
Screwdriver
Note: this applies to those monitors that state: “not optimum mode, recommended resolution 1280 X 1024 @ 60Hz”.
Step 1
Open the monitor so you can get to the interface board. This is where the video controller is.
Step 2
Search for the Novatek IC pins 5 and 6. When you find it, solder the ohm resistor between the two. An alternative is to set a 50 ohm SMD resistor in the middle of the two.
Step 3
Reassemble the monitor. Turn it back on. The error message will disappear.
How to Repair an LCD Monitor Acer 1716
Required Tools and Materials
Screwdriver
Note: this is for Acer monitors that show solid white screens or horizontal lines.
Step 1
Turn the monitor off. Unplug the cable.
Step 2
Set the monitor face down. Remove all the screws on the unit’s rear panel. Take out the screws linking the unit to the stand.
Step 3
Take off the monitor stand. Take out the rear panel. Set the two of these aside for now.
Step 4
You should be able to see the main circuit board. Find the thick cable. This is the one connected to a port onto the motherboard. Be certain it is secure. If it is loose, plug it back in tightly to the port.
Step 5
Screw the panels back into place. Screw the monitor and stand together. Plug the monitor. It should be all right now.
How to Fix a ViewSonic LCD Monitor
Required Tools and Materials
Philips and flat head screwdriver
Step 1
Turn off the monitor and unplug it. Place the monitor face down on a soft surface.
Step 2
Remove all the screws at the rear. Find the monitor’s main circuit board. Check the orange screen cable connection. Ensure that it is tight. Just to be sure, unplug it and put it back in place. If the trouble is with the front board, go to step 3.
Step 3
Flip the monitor right side up. Place the flat head screwdriver tip in the space where the monitor side and the plastic LCD frame meet. Work on it until the sides are off. Find the button under the
screen. Secure the cables.
