Understanding how to build a closet is easy, but it will take time and patience to actually build it. But with persistence, a bedroom closet will be ready in a matter of a few hours.

Step 1
Determine how much space is available in your bedroom. Next, measure the width and depth of the closet. Mark the area with a chalk.
Step 2
Remove moldings, baseboards and crown moldings. Cut off a part of the carpet where the frame will be set.
Step 3
Drill openings where the plates will be set. Drill into the wood sub floor for the bottom plates. If it is concrete, set a 2 x 4 where the base plate will be.
Step 4
Create the wall studs to frame the structure. Cut the initial stud by getting the distance of the bottom and top plates. Put the wall stud in place.
Drill drywall screws to attach the stud. Repeat for the second wall stud. Saw and place a 2 x 4 between the wall ends to keep it stable. Repeat on the other side.
Step 5
Get the frame dimensions and set them on the wallboard. Make a straight line with the pencil and cut by those marks. Nail the wallboard on the frame.
Step 6
Add the door jambs and doorstep. Anyone studying how to build a closet should always measure the jamb before installing it. The doorstop should be measured too prior to installation.
Step 7
Apply perforated joint tape to hide the nail marks.
Step 8
Put the closet door in place. You can use sliding mirror door or door hinges. Install the pieces as indicated in the manufacturer’s manual.
Step 9
Add the specking compound to cover up the nail holes. Once this is done, you can paint the wallboard.
Step 10
Put the organizers and shelves in the closet. Once this is done, you can put in the clothes, hats and other accessories.
