If you see the RROD (Red Ring of Death) on your Xbox, it means the system will freeze. The technique outlined below will show how to fix 3 red lights on Xbox 360.

Shut the console down. Disconnect the power cords.

Open the Xbox casing with the screwdriver. Remove the heatsinks’ bolts. Carefully pry off the X clamps. As you remove the components, set them aside carefully.

Scrape off the existing thermal compound with the credit card. You can also use a phone card. To remove dirt and grime, clean it with a Q tip dipped in alcohol. Clean the area as much as you can.

Put some thermal compound on the die. Put in as much thermal compound as you wiped off. Rip off a piece of credit card and stick it on the die. This will go a long way to keeping the heat level manageable.
