Put the hooked drain at the back of the washing machine. This should be around the waste water container. Take the other end of the hose. Place it on the stand pipe. Fasten the hose at the receptacle.

Step 2

Take the other end and set a couple of inches of it in the stand pipe. Do not allow it to bend.

Step 5

Step 6

Conduct a test wash. Put some load and allow it to cycle. Do not add detergents.

Unclogging a Washing Machine Drain Hose

In some cases the hose may be clogged. Follow these steps to start repairing washing machine drain hoses that are clogged.

Required Tools and Materials

White vinegar (one cup)

Step 1

The problem will manifest itself when water overflows. If this happens, remove all the clothing there.

Step 2

Put warm water in the washing machine. Adjust the settings so you’ll use low water. Pour 1 cup of vinegar in the machine; this should unclog the hose.

Step 3

Set the washing machine on its typical cycle. Do not put any clothes in; just let it run.

Step 4

Put in your regular load. If there is no more overflow, you can resume washing. If there is, take off the clothes and repeat the process. To reduce clogging incidents, clean the hose with the vinegar once a month.

Handling the Washing Machine Properly

Required Tools and Materials

Duct tape
Plumber’s tape

Anyone can go about repairing washing machine drain hoses, but proper upkeep will keep these repairs to the minimum. For example, make sure the drain pipe is a foot (or half a foot) above the ground. Even better is to place the drain pipe higher than the machine’s water plane. This will significantly reduce incidents of siphoning.

You should also make sure the pipe is standard size (i.e., two inches in diameter). To avoid leaks, you can apply plumber’s tape on the threads. This will secure the hose and keep the stand pipe from leaking. To keep the hose from being knocked around, apply some duct tape at the point where the pipes meet.

Repairing washing machine drain hoses will be easier if you care for the unit. With proper maintenance, problems can be dealt with easily.
