How to Build a Circular Deck

When you build a circular deck, the most vital point to remember is the support below it. It needs to be very strong because the entire structure will rest on it.

Required Tools and Materials

Wood beams (treated)
String
Saw
Tape measure
T plates
Stakes
Drill
Shovel
Cement

Step 1

Start with the layout and design. Make a sketch of the deck’s looks and dimensions. Decide where you want to place it.

Step 2

The next step is to mark the beams’ locations. Use the strings or stakes to mark the sites of the middle and corner beams. Begin to build a circular deck by excavating holes for the footings.

The holes need to be at least 4 feet deep. The area needs to be 8 sq ft minimum. Depending on the circular deck design, you may need to make the central beam a little bigger.

Step 3

Install the footings, starting with the center beam. For every foot of the deck diameter, the beam needs to be an inch in diameter. Pour cement around the post. The rebar length should allow for an eight inch protrusion. Drill an opening on the beam’s end. Fasten it to the rebar.

Step 4

Fasten the support frame. Make sure to saw all the pieces according to the desired lengths. When you build a circular deck, these will be put on the external beams and linked to the middle beam. Secure the wood boards on the support pillars.

Step 5

Use 2 x 4 planks for the flooring. Fasten them to the support. There should only be a small gap for each wood board. Countersink the screws.

Step 6

Determine the height and slope of the ground so you can make the stairs. Connect the stairs to the deck. Set them with increments of eight inches.

Step 7

If your deck incorporates handrail designs, you can implement them now. Just make sure the fencing rails extend from the external beams.

Step 8

The final step to build a circular deck is to paint it. To fortify the deck, use waterproof finishing. Allow it to dry completely.

Tips and Warnings

The sketch design you make is very important. The dimensions need to be accurate because this is what you’ll be using when you work. Double check the measurements so everything is correct. Allow the cement mixture to dry before proceeding. This will strengthen the posts.

Make sure you have plenty of bolts and screws at hand. You can choose from a variety of wood types; just be certain they are strong and durable. Assess the dimensions of your deck first. This will make it easier to get the appropriate quantity.

Put on goggles when you cut wood. You should also put on a face mask when painting; even if you use non lead paint, the smell may make you feel nauseous.

If you are going to build a circular deck, you can get some friends to assist you. This will help accelerate the work process.
