A dog is a man’s best friend. It deserves food and shelter and love. If you are looking for a nice dwelling place for your dog and you have no allowance in your budget to be able to buy one, don’t worry. You can easily make this a DIY project. We will give you a few notes on how to build a dog house to keep you guided.
Step 1: Take measurements. You must determine the size of your dog house first and foremost to determine the materials you will need to pick up from a nearby hardware store. Ideally, the width of the dog house must be equivalent to the length of your dog plus 12 inches. You will need to add 18 inches to the length of your dog for the length of the dog house. For the height, you need to add 9 inches to your dog’s height in front and 3 inches in the back.
Step 2: Gather your materials. You will need pieces of wood and tools for attaching each bit to one another like hammer and nails or drill and screws.
Step 3: Cut the wood. Now that you have the measurements and your materials, it is time to cut the wood. Cut the base parts first then the side panels next.
Step 4: Attach each bit to one another using weather-resistant screws or ordinary nails. Start out with the base, using 2×4 boards for the post and a ¾ inch think plywood for the flooring.
Step 5: The dog house’s roof must be angled to ensure that your pooch is kept dry. That is what you will do next.
Step 6: To ensure that your dog house is sturdy and will be able to brave the weight of your pet, make sure to put braces on the corners. Each corner base consists of two plywood strips that are attached to the sides and then to the back and front panels of the dog house.
Step 7: Install foam insulation to increase the comfort that your pooch will enjoy in its new home. The rigid foam insulation will help keep your pup warm during winter and cold during summer.
Step 8: Create the door. You must cut an opening, which your pooch will use to enter and exit the house.
Step 9: Give your dog house a nice finish by painting it in your favorite color or by using any other material that will make it look even more appealing.
