There is nothing that can’t be made out of Lego bricks. One can build practically anything from houses and buildings to vehicles like cars, boats and planes. Not surprisingly, it is also possible to build a Lego gun. What’s remarkable though is that it doesn’t just mimic the shape of a gun, but it can also imitate the functions of its mechanisms.
The first step in building a Lego gun is assembling its barrel. Start by building a plate with a width of 4 studs. Its length depends on how long one would intend the gun barrel to be. Next, 1-stud wide bricks are attached along the barrel’s edge, forming a central channel measuring a width of 2 studs. The barrel wall is then made using bricks that have side holes and reinforced with a 2nd line of bricks. This 2nd row should be offset so that the upper row covers the spaces flanked by the lower bricks.
Take a pair of 1 x 2-stud bricks that each have single side holes. One of these bricks should then be attached to the very back, while the other one is attached 4 studs further, within the channel. A 1 x 4-stud brick is then placed diagonally from the two 1 x 2-stud bricks at the rear. Attach a sufficient enough number of flat plates in covering up the remainder of the channel floor. Especially make use of as many 1-stud wide bricks as possible.
Get a technic rod measuring a length of 10 studs and an end cap that has a technic pin slot, attach these pieces together, then slide the component formed into the bricks’ side holes at the back. Find an elastic band and slip it into the end cap’s pin slot. The resulting mechanism will serve as the Lego gun’s firing pin. 2 technic pins are installed in the 3rd side holes from the barrel’s back. The elastic is then attached to the technic pins, and the gun barrel’s top is completely enclosed with plates measuring a width of 4 studs.
After completing the barrel, it’s time to assemble the rest of the Lego gun’s parts. In making the handle, make sure that it is sturdy and secure. A handle measuring a width of 4 studs and a length of 6 studs should do fine, and employ curved pieces as much as possible to follow the contour of the holder’s hand. The gun’s sight is attached to the barrel’s front and back, using a brick with a 2-stud wide angle at the rear, and at the front, a 2 x 1-stud plate that has a single-top stud.
The bullets are made from flat plates placed on top of 2 x 4-stud bricks. To load the Lego gun, drop one of the bullets in the barrel. To cock the gun, pull back the firing pin, and then release it in order to fire the gun. This model type is very basic for a Lego gun, but one may be able to add on to it to customize a more elaborate-looking model. Also, though it is of course not as harmful as a real gun, do refrain from aiming it at others to be on the safe side.
