To build a log home, start by measuring the cabin’s outer wall outlines. Note the figures down by putting stakes on the ground. Put strings around them. Next you have to make 3 holes 2 1/2 ft deep. This will be on the outline’s sides.

Set up the piers in the holes using mortar and stones. Set these 18 inches over the ground. Fill the empty space with gravel.
Step 2
Put in sheeting on the stone piers. Be sure the metal projects on the sides.
Step 3
Before you learn how to build a log home, apply an adze to flatten the logs’ top side. Notch a couple of shorter logs; these will be used for the end walls’ support.
Step 4
Put the bottom side logs on the stone pillars. Put the short end logs’ notches on the logs with long sides. Chisel 4 slots along the long log’s surface.
Step 5
Put the four legs in the long side log’s slots. Put the floor planks on them. Nail it to the joists.
Step 6
Make notches on the logs for fitting in the walls. Make sure there are notches for each log.
Step 7
Set each log by the wall. You can do this by using a pulley and rope. You will need a couple of people to help you. Set the door on the short or long side. Place an opening on a side adjacent to the window.
Step 8
Make notches for the logs that will be over the walls. Run the logs wall to wall crosswise.
Step 9
Keep stacking up the logs to make the roof gables. Put beams from the uppermost beam onto the top logs at your walls. Nail the plywood onto the purlin. Nail it to the support beams and the shingles too.
Step 10
If there are holes amidst the logs, put cement in it. Add the doors, windows and hinges. You will need to use wood screws for this.
One more thing needs to be said when learning how to build a log home. You need to be careful when using the power tools. Have a first aid kit nearby before you start working on the log cabin. You should also have protective eyewear too.
