You don’t need to be a scientist to build a simple robot. You can use this guide to make a basic but fully functional robot.
Required Tools and Materials
Dual lock tape
Battery (nickel cadmium or lead acid)
Receiver/controller combo (four degrees or above)
Professional grade glue
Velcro pieces (2)
Wheel base
Note: make sure that the wheel base and the receiver are still intact and usable.
Get the wheel base and check if it is still in good condition. If it is, apply a couple of Velcro pieces on the wheel base. Glue one Velcro piece in the top center of the wheel base. Glue the other Velcro piece to the wheel base’s bottom.
Step 2
Connect the receiver on the wheel base. Attach it on the top Velcro. Get the lead acid battery. Hook it up on the bottom Velcro of the wheel base.
Step 3
Fasten a couple of servos on the wheel base. The servos will go on the perimeter and the top of the wheel. These will be on opposing sides and close to the wheels. Fasten them via the dual tape. Do not forget this step when you build a simple robot.
Step 4
Use the receiver to wire the components. The servos and the battery will be fed on the receiver. To make the connection, search for the channels on the end of the receiver. Connect the three wire lead on the battery. Connect this to the channel marked “battery” or “butt”.
Step 5
Get the wires on the servo. Wire these on the adjacent but separate channels. The robot is finished.
Step 6
Now it is time to test the robot. Give it a spin by turning the controller. You should see complete movement. If it works, feel free to add any embellishments to the machine.
Tips and Warnings
RC cars can be used as the wheel base. Remove all the unnecessary plastic parts; you only need the basic wheel. If the RC has a receiver, set it aside also.
Make sure your receiver is 4 degrees at least. The degrees determine the amount of movement that can be done. 4 degrees means an up / down, left / right movement is possible.
If you are going to build a simple robot, you can use any type of RC controller and receiver. Just make sure to follow all the instructions. Be careful when removing the RC car components so you don’t damage any parts or components.
