Many TVs come with their own stand, but it is quite easy to learn how to build a TV stand yourself. The following stand is for use with LCD TVs.
Required Tools and Materials
Wood stain
Tack cloth
Sand paper, medium grade and fine grade
Wood putty
20 wood screws, 2-inch
Oak plywood, ¾-inch, 20 inch x 12 inch
4 oak boards, 3 inch by 3 inch by 16 inch
Countersink, 3/8-inch
Screw gun
Drill bit, 3/32 inch
Drill
2 oak boards, 1 inch by 5 inch by 10 inch
2 oak boards, 1 inch by 5 inch by 20 inch
Set a couple of 20 inch wood pieces on an even surface. Set them on edge, spaced by 10 inches and parallel.
Step 2
Put a 10 inch wood piece on the edge. They should be 19 inches apart and perpendicular to the 20 inch pieces. Pre-drill a hole measuring 3/32 inch in the 20 inch boards into the ten inch boards. Next, countersink a hole measuring 3/8 inch and ¼ inch deep.
Fasten in the pre-drilled holes in the ten inch wood piece. You will end up with a 20 x 12 inch frame. When studying how to build a TV stand, make sure to drill the 3/32 hole and 3/8 countersink in all fastening applications.
Step 3
Set the 16 inch pieces upright. They should be perpendicular and in the frame corner. Fasten a couple of screws in the 10 inch and 20 inch board. These will make up the table legs. The 20 x 10 frame will act as the support.
Step 4
Flip the table up. Put the plywood oak on top. Flush the edges. Fasten the plywood on the 20 inch pieces and the 10 inch frame boards.
Step 5
Put some wood putty in the countersink holes. Ensure the holes are filled to the top. Give the putty time to dry. This will vary depending on the putty product. Follow what the product guidelines say. Do not sand the TV stand until it is dry.
Step 6
Sand the whole structure. Use the medium grade sandpaper first followed by the fine grade sandpaper.
Step 7
Wipe the structure using the tack cloth. Put some wood stain on the TV stand. Give it time to dry.
Anyone can learn how to build a TV stand. However, the actual building process will take some time. Before you start, take into account the TV dimensions. Be sure the stand is large enough to support it and carry the weight.
