How to Fix a CD

CDs and DVDs are ideal for keeping documents, images, music files, videos and other data. However, CDs can get cracked or scratched. When learning how to fix a CD, you should always proceed with caution.

Required Tools and Materials

Flat table surface
Paper towel
Lint free buffing cloth
CD scratch remover
Circular CD shaped label

Step 1

To start the CD repair, hold the disc and align the cracked parts. Align it carefully so you don’t damage the disc further.

Step 2

Put the disc on a paper towel. Place the towel and disc on an even surface. Get the circular CD adhesive label. Take off the label so the adhesive portion is visible.

Step 3

Check the CD and make sure the cracked portions are still aligned. If they are, you can now start to fix a CD with the label. Carefully apply the label on the CD’s non shiny side. Use your fingers to smooth it out.

Be certain there are no air bubbles. Press the label on the point where the cracks are. Do not press too hard; just enough to ensure there are no air bubbles.

Step 4

Apply the CD scratch remover on a lint free cloth or paper towel. Wipe the towel or cloth on the CD. Polish the disc with another clean piece of lint free cloth. Use this to get rid of any excess scratch removers.

Notes

If you do not have a CD shaped label, try clear packing tape. But if you are going to use tape, you need to apply it on both sides of the disc. The tape size must be the same for both sides. This is necessary so fractures do not take place.

How to Fix Scratched Discs

Required Tools and Materials

Toothpaste
Car polish
Lamp
Clean lint free cloth

Step 1

Put some toothpaste on the cloth. Wipe this on the CD. Wash the CD after a couple of minutes. If that doesn’t work, try step 2.

Step 2

Apply car polish on a cloth. Wipe this on the compact disc. Leave the polish there for a few minutes then wash it off.

Step 3

Another method involves a 60W lamp. Turn the lamp on. Hold the CD 4 inches away from the lamp. Spin it slowly. Do this for 20 seconds.

Put the CD in the player before it gets cold. It could work.

These methods on how to fix a CD are temporary. When you get the CD to work, burn the contents to a new CD.
