Materials Needed
This task is moderately easy. However, you need a number of materials to complete it including drywall saw, putty knife and utility knife. In addition to these items, be sure to prepare drywall compound, hand sander as well as a new set of gypsum ceiling to replace the damage parts. Do not forget to bring a spray texture repair kit, drywall screws and drywall tape. Lastly, prepare a textured roller, a paintbrush and of course paint.
Steps
Prepare the drywall repair toolkit and check if all the important elements to complete this task are available. Likewise, it is good to learn first how to use the hand sander. Practice first on some extra drywall just to be sure of a smoother finish later on. This is very important for the priming as well as painting.
In case you find a small hole at the ceiling, get the drywall saw and then remove the damaged part. From the replacement gypsum drywall, cut a small part enough to cover the hole that you have made earlier. Use the utility knife for this part.
Secure the new part in place by putting drywall screws to the joist. Cover the screws and joints with a thin coat of drywall compound. Put drywall tape around the joint, right above the compound. Apply another coat of the compound on the tape. Leave it to dry for some time and then sand it.
Get the putty knife and then use it to scrape off debris and paint from the damaged area. Get the hand sander and use it on the edges until they become smooth. Fill in the area with a thin layer of compound. Leave it to dry and then sand for a smoother finish.
Prime the restored parts and then apply paint with a matching color as the rest of the ceiling. In case you cannot find the right kind of paint to match, you can fix this problem by painting the entire ceiling together with the newly restored parts with new paint.
