Materials Needed

Repairing vertical blinds is moderately easy, but first you need to gather a few simple materials. You can make this task easier by preparing a screwdriver, a utility knife or scissors and replacement vanes. Aside from this, be sure to have a cardboard. If you have these things, you can start right away with this simple task.

Steps

Before you clean or replace a vane, you must first open the blind. After that, raise the vane a little to remove it from the hook on the carrier or holder. You can open the holder by bending the vane outwards, and then slowly pulling it out. For an aluminum or vinyl vane with a spacer chain, remove the tie-down clip or screw located at the chain’s end. To remove a fabric vane, simply disconnect the connector of the chain and spacer from one side.

To put up the new vane, move it towards the same direction as the other vanes. Grasp the top part of the vane and then slowly push it up right into the holder. After that, pull it down to lock it in place. In case you are working on aluminum or vinyl vanes, put the chain through the holes of the new vanes. Proper spacing must be maintained. You can do this by cutting a cardboard equivalent to the size o the spacing of other vanes. This can help you determine where to put the next vane after the last vane that was installed.
